ENTRY GUIDELINES

  • All competitors must create a MyCompHQ Portal to complete their entries. This is the only way to enter Jump events. This portal can be accessed via the Jump website.

  • This is an amateur competition. No professional dancers are allowed to compete in any sections. A professional dancer is defined as someone who earns a majority of their income from teaching or performing dance, or has performed in/completed a professional dance contract.

  • All competitors are to enter according to their age on the 1st of January 2025 including groups.

  • The closing date for entries will change according to the event, however, the event will close early if sold out (by capacity numbers). Please note that WE WILL SELL OUT. In this case a waitlist may become available.

  • It is prohibited for competitors to have been taught by the judge anytime during the 12 months prior to the commencement of Jump. This excludes independent programs and coaches as long as choreography has not been taught.

  • Competitors must enter the name of the studio they attend. A competitor may enter a solo/duo/trio as independent if they are not associated with a studio.

  • Jump reserves the right to combine/eliminate or amend any sections based on entries received. Additional dates may be added to the event if required.

  • Jump has the right to change the age section/level division you compete in if they believe you have entered into the incorrect age section/level division.

  • All competitors must purchase a compulsory competitor pass at the time of entry for each event. Only one competitor's pass per competitor is required, if the event has solos, duos, trios and groups you still only require one competitor's pass.

  • There is no door charge for spectators, all our solo/duo/trio sessions are FREE ENTRY. There may be a small door charge for group sessions depending on the cost of the venue.

DANCE STYLE DEFINITIONS

Jazz: Jazz dance combines energy, rhythm, and versatility. Rooted in African-American culture, jazz incorporates isolations, syncopated rhythms, and dynamic movements, often featuring leaps, kicks, and turns with lots of flair and style.

Broadway Jazz/Musical Theatre: Broadway Jazz or Musical Theatre dance is all about storytelling, expression, and character. Dancers perform with bold, theatrical moves that enhance the drama of musical numbers, often influenced by classic Broadway shows and iconic choreographers.

Commercial Jazz: Commercial Jazz focuses on high-energy, polished routines seen in music videos, concerts, and pop culture performances. It blends jazz fundamentals with edgy, eye-catching moves and stage presence, suited for live and televised entertainment.

Classical Ballet: Classical Ballet is a highly technical and disciplined form of dance characterised by graceful, precise movements, flowing lines, and a focus on form. Rooted in tradition, it includes intricate footwork, pointe work, and emphasises balance and elegance. Must be executed in Ballet or Pointe shoes.

Neo-Classical: Neo-Classical ballet blends classical ballet technique with modern influences, offering more freedom in movement and expression. This style maintains ballet’s technical foundation while allowing dancers to explore creative, contemporary forms.

Tap: Tap dance combines rhythm and percussive footwork. Dancers use their feet to create rhythmic patterns, producing sound by tapping their feet on the floor in syncopated rhythms, often accompanied by music or acappella.

Song and Dance / Song and Tap: This style combines singing and dancing in one performance, highlighting a dancer's versatility. Often found in musical theatre, it involves singing combined with either traditional or tap dancing to tell a story and entertain.

Hip Hop: Hip Hop dance is a vibrant and street-inspired style that emerged from urban culture. It includes a variety of movements like breaking, popping, and locking, and emphasizes groove, individuality, and personal expression.

Contemporary: Contemporary dance fuses elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance, focusing on organic, fluid movements that convey emotion. It encourages experimentation and often includes floor work, improvisation, and expressive choreography.

Lyrical: Lyrical dance combines ballet and jazz to convey the emotion of a song's lyrics through graceful, flowing movements. This style is expressive, emphasising the connection between movement and music for a heartfelt performance.

Acrobatics: Acrobatics combines dance with gymnastic elements, incorporating flips, tumbling, and balances. It requires flexibility, strength, and control, blending athletic feats with dance to create exciting, gravity-defying performances.

Own Choreography: In Own Choreography, dancers create their own routines to showcase their personal style and creativity. It allows dancers to express themselves and explore unique combinations of movement across any dance genre.

Open Style: This can be any style dance, can only be entered if it is a style we do not offer or if you have 2 dances in the same style and would like to compete with both.
